Workplace Mediation

Workplace mediation is a collaborative, problem-solving process in which a trained and impartial third party helps two or more people in dispute attempt to resolve their differences. By providing a swift, flexible and informal response to conflict, mediation prevents further escalation of the situation, thereby heading off absenteeism, grievances and possibly litigation.

Unresolved workplace conflict has serious consequences for the affected parties as well as colleagues, managers and the organization itself. Productivity decreases as the workplace becomes distracted by the conflict. Resulting stress can lead to absenteeism and health issues, and the resulting staff turnover is costly as it necessitates recruitment and training of new staff.

Workplace issues appropriate for mediation include:

  • Terminations
  • Harassment, discrimination and bullying
  • Interpersonal differences, conflicts, and difficulties in working together
  • Breakdown in working relationships between co-workers, employee and supervisor/manager, or work teams
  • Discipline issues
